who cannot keep them or they are being fostered in a home and are not at Pet Orphan's shelter.

CATS
FOUND A STRAY
If you find a dog or cat and are not sure what to do, please read the
what
to do if you find a stray page which offers some suggestions and where you can go for help. After
reading the section, if you end up rescuing the dog, or in circumstances where individuals need to
re-home their own pet, our Private Adoption Assistance Program is available free to participants and
prospective adopters.
PRIVATE ADOPTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
As our space allows, Pet Orphans rescues dogs and cats from city and county shelters, and then provide
them with the highest quality care until a loving, permanent home is found for them. Due to our limited
space, we usually are full and will not be able to take in your animal, to inquire about Pet Orphans
space availability, you can submit a request on the
pet relinquishment form.
For individuals (“Participants”) who find it necessary to re-home a dog or cat, or for
those who have rescued an animal and have been unsuccessful at locating the owner, we offer the
opportunity for them to spotlight the dog or cat on this website in an effort to assist them with
finding a new home. (Please read the section on Re-homing a Pet for
further information.)
For dogs and cats that meet the following criteria, we will include a photo of the animal and a brief
informative description. There is no cost for this program to the Participant or prospective adopters,
and we will assume administration of the website. However, due to the lack of staff to handle calls
about this program, we ask that the PARTICIPANTS AND PROSPECTIVE ADOPTERS NOT CALL
Pet Orphans.
These are private adoptions and prospective adopters need to contact the Participant listed for
further information.
PARTICIPANTS:
Before submitting a pet for inclusion, be sure that the pet meets the criteria listed below:
-
The pet MUST be spayed or neutered before being submitted to Pet Orphans Private Adoption
Assistance Program website. (Exceptions to sterilization include medical conditions or if under 6
months of age).
-
The pet must be current on required shots.
-
The rescuer has made all possible attempts to find the original owner.
Furthermore, prior to submitting a pet for inclusion, the Participant agrees:
-
Not to contact Pet Orphans by phone, but may e-mail corrections and updates on the pet bio.
-
To immediately notify Pet Orphans of Southern California by e-mail upon the successful adoption of
the pet, and provide information on where the adopter learned of the pet.
To submit your pet for inclusion, please send an e-mail to
oberarlo@sbcglobal.net with an attached digital
photograph of the pet. If submitting more than one pet, the file must be saved with the pet's
name. Also include a complete description of your pet,
including the current name, breed, sex, age, weight and information on the temperament and health of
the dog or cat. Also list your name, telephone number and/or e-mail address where you can be contacted
or receive messages from prospective adopters. We will be unable to include the pet without the
above information.
Suggestions for Participants: Following is a “Pledge for New Dog Adopters” which we
recommend you read, print out and utilize when screening prospective adopters. Most of the points are
also appropriate for the adoption of cats.
PLEDGE FOR NEW DOG ADOPTERS
-
I pledge to make a reasonable commitment of time and effort, and to affect scheduling and lifestyle
changes in order to make this relationship work.
-
I pledge to make sure my dog is not exposed to the elements of weather without proper shelter,
shade cover, dry ground, access to fresh water and at least 1 hour of loving companionship and play
a day. (I understand this is a minimum and will strive to keep the dog with me as much as possible
and treat him/her as an important member of my family.)
-
I pledge to provide appropriate and timely veterinary care for the life of my dog.
-
I pledge to provide my dog with the proper nutrition for optimum health, and to keep my dog the
proper weight, neither obese nor emaciated.
-
I pledge to keep this dog indoors at night, and to include him/her in the activities of the household
while we are home, as much as possible.
-
I pledge to keep my dog groomed and free of external parasites and matting (particularly behind my
dog’s ears, under his elbows, his tail and thighs).
-
I pledge to spay or neuter my dog, if he/she is not already done.
-
I pledge to give my dog ample aerobic exercise daily, and make sure that at least three times a week
he gets to run and play and get tired out.
-
I pledge to provide my dog with mental stimulation in the form of either play, interactive toys,
training, or off-territory leash walks, DAILY.
-
I pledge to provide my dog with enough training and/or behavioral management so as to enable him to
be a welcome part of my community, or managed safely.
-
I pledge to provide my dog ample outlets for his instincts (such as off territory leash
walks/running, opportunities to sniff and explore the natural world, agility training, trick
training, fun and rewarding obedience training, play with other dogs, etc.) so that he does not feel
constantly frustrated, or develop behavioral problems because he is neglected or under-stimulated.
-
I pledge to provide a home in which my dog clearly knows there are certain rules to which I will
insist on and he can count on.
-
I pledge to provide my dog with enough toys to satisfy his urge to chew.
-
I pledge to get professional help if my dog has or develops behavior or temperament problems, and, if
safe, to manage my dog carefully so as not to endanger the people and other pets in my community.
-
I pledge to do everything I can to keep my dog from becoming a nuisance in my community.
-
I will not allow him to run free/out of my control, chase cars, bicycles, children, etc.
-
I will seek professional help to get my dog to be quiet, or keep him quiet both when I am home and
away, so as not to disturb my neighbors.
-
I pledge to “scoop poop” from my dog when off my property, so that my dog and other dogs
will always be welcome in public.
-
I pledge that if I have to move residences for any reason, I am aware that finding housing that
accepts pets can take longer than average, but that I will commit to moving with my dog, as I would
move with a member of my family.
-
I pledge that if, for any reason, I can no longer keep this dog, I will not abandon this dog, and I
will return the dog to the shelter (if adopted from a rescue shelter) or leave ample time to find a
new, appropriate home, tell the new owners truthfully all the dog’s behaviors, good and bad,
and follow up occasionally to make sure the dog is safe and content.
PARTICIPANTS AND PROSPECTIVE ADOPTERS:
In order to be able to provide this FREE service to the public, it is important that the Participants and
prospective adopters recognize Pet Orphans does not have the staff to handle incoming calls regarding
these pets. Furthermore, these animals have not been met by any representative of Pet Orphans and we have
no knowledge of their health, temperament, history, etc., and as such, Pet Orphans assumes no liability
for these animals.
PROSPECTIVE ADOPTERS:
If you are interested in one of the animals that appears on our Private Adoption Assistance Program web
pages, YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE RESCUER DIRECTLY. Do not contact Pet Orphans
as we will not be able to provide you with any information on the pet or Participant.

BABY
"Baby" is a beautiful Persian cat with special needs that is looking for a loving new home.
His owner recently passed away. He is the sweetest cat, very affectionate, playful, and will greet you
at the door. He is an indoor-only cat, and is used to someone being home with him all day. He has a
allergies and a weak immune system, which requires a $100 trip to the vet at least once a month. Baby
has been neutered and has taken FeLV and FIV tests and is OK. He is approximately 2-1/2 yrs old and
is a relatively small cat with incredibly beautiful blue eyes.

BABY |
BABY
Grey Medium-Long Hair Domestic. This gorgeous adorable baby kitten is only 3 weeks old and eating on
"his" own! Also using the litterbox 90% of the time! This is phenominal for this age! Almost
makes him an Einstein! Gender is unknown but very likely male, because "he" is small but larger
than his siblings. He's only about 5 ounces and fits in your hand!
He is absolutely the cutest thing! He has blue eyes which might change color as happens with babies. He
is shy but warming up and he loves to sit on your leg or play with your show laces! This is behavior
usually seen in a 8-10 week old!
He was found in the bushes with her 3 other siblings! The other 3 are identical triplet Siamese would
you believe!
We prefer to adopt Baby with at least one other sibling. Please inquire to see other sibling photos.

BULLWINKLE

ROCKY |
BULLWINKLE and ROCKY
I have two brother cats that I can no longer keep. My son has allergies. It breaks my heart, but we
have to get rid of Bullwinkle and Rocky.
We adopted them as kittens four and a half years ago. Their former owners couldn't keep them. I
promised them to keep the two cats together. They have an amazing sibling bond. I really want them
to be adopted together, I think they would not be okay without each other.

Bullwinkle is the bigger and more black one. He is affectionate and once he gets to know you, likes
to cozy up to you and has a huge purr. Rocky is the smaller, whiter one. He is very bonded to my
son, sleeps next to him every night. Rocky is more timid than Bullwinkle, and needs a calm
environment. (He is not good around crowds, and has been known to pee when stressed by big groups of
teenagers in the house, something that happens here.)
I really hope you can help me. I do not wish to take these cats to the shelter (certain death
sentence!) but I cannot keep them. I can be reached at 323-225-3321, or at email
crohman1@yahoo.com
thank you so much,

We two rescued brothers named Charlie and Jude, and we are 12 weeks old. We are
neutered/vaccinated/flea treated/weaned onto dry food. Our foster mommy loves us but she
cannot keep us forever! We would like to go together because we are bestest buddies and
because Jude is a little timid. Charlie is a big snuggler and we both just LOVE to play!
Also, our mommy would like a home that will keep us indoors. Please contact our mommy,
Melissa, at meow420@gmail.com or (818) 857-7594 if
interested. No adoption fee is required, though our mommy would appreciate any donation that
you can offer! Will you be our forever Mommy or Daddy? |

FRITZ |
FRITZ
3.5 years, Male, DSH, White & Black
Fritz was born in our back yard, so I have been with him all the time. He will be four years old
on September 1.
He is more social than many cats, since he was brought up with a Golden Retriever. He seemed to
think the dog was his mother, and snuggled up with him. He loves to snuggle up with people too, and
loves to be pet. He is mischievous and loves to search for any food that is around.
He has been a loving cat, cute and full of energy. He has always been an inside cat, and he is
trained to use a cat box. He has been neutered.
I would be happy to provide any further information.

HARRY |
HARRY
Harry is approximately 6 to 7 years old. He is very loving and affectionate and purrs like crazy,
but may do better in a home where he is the only cat. Harry started to come around our home
approximately 4 years ago and was very shy so we fed him outside. Harry eventually started to come
into the house and staying at night, but then stopped for about a year. In early April 2007 he had
been in a fight and was probably feeling very unwanted and unloved. But when I opened the door, he
ran in and has been here ever since. Since then, Harry has seen Dr. Rabinner at Alamo Veterinary
Clinic in Simi Valley and has been neutered, de-wormed, has all of his shots and is ready to go
home.

HONEY |
HONEY
Hello,
My name is Honey and I am approximately 4 years old – maybe 5.
If you are a patient parent and let me have a 2 week adjustment period you will see that I can be very
loving and loyal. I do not like male cats. I get along with a younger female cat that I live with now.
I also used to live with a small dog so should be OK with that as long as I have a place to keep up high.
Also, I do not get along with small children.
My current parent has me on high quality grain-free wet food and I have lost weight and my fur is shiny
as ever. I also smell much better and throw-up very rarely.
If you adopt me I come with a litter pan, some favorite toys, a case of all the different types of food I
like to eat and my favorite small one story kitty condo. (but I like to be up high – so if you have a
tall one, that would be extra great for me!) Also, a pre-adoption vet exam will be given.
Please call Bridget at 818-823-5577. She will give you all kinds of details
about me and she can arrange a house visit to see if I might like it there.
I KNOW I will be a great addition to your life and you to mine. |

KIMBA

NALA

AMBER
|
KIMBA, NALA & AMBER
The following three cats were left to me by my mother who could not take them with her when she
moved into an assisted living environment.
"KIMBA" (gold and black striped with white feet) personality is very social and friendly
to people and with other cats. He's about 6 months old and he's been neutered.
"NALA" (gold and black striped) is Kimba's sister, but for some reason she is very shy.
I've worked with her and she's come a long way (she'll jump up on my bed next to me, but won't let
me pet her), but there's a boy kitty in the house that likes to play-chase her and it really
doesn't help the situation. Nala has a lot of potential and gets along with other kitties as long
as they're not big boys that think it's fun to chase her :-) She is about 6 months old, but has
not been spayed yet.
"Amber"(orange and black) is a sweetie. She gets along with the other cats and is found curled up with them frequently. She also likes people,
but just wants to get to know you first…then she'll sleep curled up next to you if you let her and you can hold and pet her. She is about 7 months old
and has been spayed.

LILLY & ELLIOTT |
LILLY & ELLIOTT
I have two cats that need to find a loving home (not necessarily together). In the picture, Lilly
(female) is the darker and Elliot (male) is orange. I will be moving out of state soon and living
with friends, and will be unable to take them with me. I'll be here for the next month or so.
Both are about 5 years old (unsure of exact age as they were rescued from a shelter) fixed, and
clawed. They are up to date with shots. Lilly is 12 lbs and Elliot is slimmer at 10. Lilly is
extremely affectionate. Elliot is a little less social but very playful.

LOLA |
LOLA
This lovely young lady is Lola. Born in mid-March, 2006, she was abandoned in a box when she was
just a little kitten, but things are definitely looking up now that she's in a loving foster
situation. Lola is a low-key, friendly gal with an independent streak. She likes to be pet, and
responds with a big, rumbling purr. Lola has a chirpy, sweet little meow, and loves to greet her
foster mom with a pretty song every morning. She would love a special someone who will appreciate
her independent nature and allow her to come when she wants, in her typical kitty fashion. Lola
will reward her adopter with a lifetime of love, purrs and good times. Lola is spayed, microchipped,
tested, vaccinated, dewormed and litter box trained. For more information, please contact

MADDIE |
MADDIE
Maddie is a very loving 5 year old cat, that I must find another home for because she's not doing
well with my other cat. She would do best as the only cat in the house, though she doesn't have a
problem with dogs. She would love to have someone home with her in the day, as she lives for
curling up with you to take a nap. She's a 10 lb, domestic long hair, declawed in the front, and
spayed, has always been healthy, and up to date on her shots. It kills me to let her go, but I want
to find her happy home. Please email

MINDY |
MINDY
Mindy is a beautiful short-haired black female kitty with a little spot of white on her chest.
She is about 1 1/2 years and seven pounds. She is calm but very playful. She is in good health
and tested FIV/FeLV negative. She came from a lady who had one un-spayed female and before she
knew it she had 20 cats! Mindy had kittens herself and subsequently didn't have much of a chance
to be a playful young kitty herself. She is very smart - she was able to find food long distances
from her home. The owner of Mindy and the others left town a few months ago without them. She
needs a home where she will be with a least one other mild-mannered cat and where she will be
able to enjoy life!

POLLY |
POLLY
Polly is an adorable 3 1/2-month-old calico kitten, born in September, 2007, who wanted to be
rescued so desperately that she hitched a ride in the engine of a truck! As the driver was making
his delivery, Polly announced her arrival by meowing loudly until she was heard and pulled out,
and the rest is history. In spite of this scary experience, Polly is a playful, curious, and
affectionate purrball of a kitten who loves to roll on her back for tummy rubs and lick the hand
that pets her. She has a cute husky meow and a vibrant purr. This cuddly little girl will blossom
even more in her very own loving, forever home, where she'd do best with another kitty playmate.

PRINCESS |
PRINCESS
Princess is a 3 1/2 year-old, 7.2 lb, gorgeous Torti-Himalayan mix that was rescued
from a dumpster area where she had just given birth to her two kittens.
She had never been touched by a human before and, although terrified, allowed me to
save her and her adorable babies. She was a great mom and allowed me to socialize
all of them through play (& treat bribery, of course). Once her babies were
weaned and adopted, I continued to work with her one-on-one.
She is spayed, dewormed, deflead, tested neg. for FIV and FELV - plus had a full
blood work-up, Urinalysis, and vaccines.
She is shy, at first, but gets along with other cats (as long as they're not
extremely territorial). She loves dogs which is a real plus

everyone who looks his way. Scottie shamelessly makes a play for anyone who takes the time to come
visit him. He would love nothing more than to have a loving home of his own, preferably as your one
and only, or with a submissive kitty playmate already in residence. Scottie was rescued from a
restaurant parking lot in Atwater Village in the summer of 2007, and his foster mom reports that he
has been an absolute delight ever since. Scottie has a lot of love to give. This deserving cat just
needs someone to love him back. Scottie is neutered, tested, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed
and microchipped. Contact

SIMONE |
SIMONE
Hi, my name is Simone, and my mommy went to Heaven very suddenly. I have been hiding
under her bed and too afraid to come out since she went away. I'm so very sad and
need someone to comfort me. In fact, my Mum wrote her last note from the hospital
about PET ORPHANS... She said, "This organization will see Simone is safe and
adopted to only a good family." She trusted Pet Orphans and had done a lot of
volunteer work for them. Mum adopted so many, many pets in her lifetime. I think all
dogs and cats everywhere are sad she is gone. She was so loving to me and took such
good care of all of us who were lucky enough to live with her. I know I look very
haughty and spoiled because I am. I'm an Alpha-cat for sure and very independent, but
once I warm up to you, I become very affectionate and will kiss you to pieces! I get
along great with dogs but I have to be the boss with other cats. Please will you give
me your love and a new home to comfort me?

TED & LOLA |
TED & LOLA
Ted is the black one.
Lola is the one with the siamese-like markings.
They're brother & sister, both mixes of some sort. About 2 1/2 years old. Ted's bigger, but
they're both somewhere around 10 lbs.
Good with dogs and other cats.
Ted and Lola are rescued ferals who, even after much attempted socializing, remain shy and reserved.
However, when you give them a rubdown, they purr and knead and roll and love it! They are incredibly
close and we'd very much prefer that they be adopted together.

KIWI |
KIWI
This darling and playful 2 1/2 year old girl just wants to be loved! Kiwi,
a brindle−colored Schnauzer/Staff mix, was found as a 5 week old puppy
in a cardboard box in an alley, and she rewarded her rescuer with kisses, hugs
and undying loyalty. Sadly, his current circumstances do not allow him to keep
Kiwi anymore, and she needs to find a new family to love! She is housetrained,
great on a leash and wonderful with dogs her own size (she has always lived with
a canine friend and she plays well with others at the dog park), but no small dogs
or cats, please. She adores all people, but at 65 pounds her energetic nature is
probably best suited to kids over 12. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on
all shots. Please be Kiwi's angel and take her into your heart and home...but only
if you like to cuddle...! For more information, please contact Jen at
jjsbuddabelli@yahoo.com

LICORICE |
LICORICE
Licorice - 4 year old male Giant Schnauzer/Rottie mix. At around 80 lbs, Licorice has a magnificent
bear-like appearance. He is soft-coated, non-shedding with natural ears and tail. Licorice is an
exceptionally intelligent, playful and loving dog with a special affinity for female labs. He has a
natural protective instinct, which before undergoing an intensive, prolonged training program, had
become inappropriate stranger aggression. At this point, we believe the perfect home for Licorice
would include children over 6, a female lab, and dominant adults experienced with large dogs and
willing to follow the strict guidelines and firm discipline set forth by his trainer. Anyone
interested in adopting Licorice will be required to meet with both Licorice and the trainer for a
consult. Licorice is healthy, neutered and current on all vaccines. If you are interested in

MILEY |
MILEY
Miley is a black and brown german shepherd mix. We found Miley walking across a busy
street and have done what we can to find his previous owner. We have Miley at our house
temporarily, but we live in an apartment complex that does not allow dogs, so we can't
keep him. Miley is between 8 and 10 weeks old and is very well behaved. We have a 4 year
old daughter who he loves to play with, so we know Miley is good with kids. He loves
attention from just about everyone who gives it to him. We took Miley to the vet and got a
good bill of health for him. We were not able to get him his shots or deworming because we
don't have the extra money, so we hope we can find a loving home for him, with someone who
is willing to get him his shots and get him dewormed. Miley has toys, a leash and collar,
a food and water bowl, food and treats, and a special dog bed that will go with him. If
anyone wants more information or would like to adopt Miley email me at
sarah.ashton@ymail.com
I live in Southern California and would like an owner around the same area. |

RAYLENE |
RAYLENE
Hi, this is Raylene. She is a 25 pound year and a half old Miniture Pinscher-Shepherd mix.
Raylene and her 3 puppies were living under an abandoned house. Her 3 puppies have found
homes and now it's Raylene's turn. She will need a patient and caring person to adopt her.
She isn't friendly with people she does not know and she'll keep her distance. It takes
her a little while to accept someone new but once she does accept you she is very
affectionate and protective. She has been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, fecal test done,
frontlined, and microchipped. She gets along with dogs but would do best as an only dog,
not great with cats, and she is housebroken with a doggy door. She is very playful and
would do well with older children. Contact Terrell at 323-385-8993 or

REGGIE |
REGGIE
Hi, I'm Reggie. I weigh about 15 lbs and just over a year old. Most people think my legs are too long, but
actually I am a purebred Brussels Griffon, English Version, longer legs thinner built. Unlike the American
version which is short and stocky. Don't go by my current picture because someone butchered my hair and cut
off my beautiful beard. Fortunately, it will grow back. I'm just over a year, male/neutered. I will need
an experienced dog owner and best if you learn the breed, because I don't have much outside socialization
under my belt. It takes me a while to trust so better I went to an adult home with an understanding of
consistency and loads of patience. No aggression, just apprehensive. Once I know you and the household rules,
I will make a wonderful companion. I can be in a house with other dogs, but don't expect me to play with them
just yet and even cats are okay. Right now I can be seen by appointment, not ready for the stress of a
public audience. Adoption application and fee applies. Contact:

ROXANNA |
ROXANNA
Hi! This is Roxanna. She's a one year old female German Shepherd mix. She was pregnant when she was found in
an industrial section of south LA. A couple of days after she was rescued she gave birth to 4 adorable puppies.
Her puppies are now in wonderful loving homes. But Roxanna is still waiting for her wonderful loving home.
Unfortunately, Roxanna is a special case and it would take a special person to adopt her. She does not trust
people easily and it takes a while for her to warm up. She is quicker to trust women than men. Even though she
had just had puppies she would let her foster dad come into her kennel to clean, feed, and change her water
but she would not let him touch her or her puppies. She would even take treats from his hand but always
cautiously. It took over 5 weeks for her to trust her foster dad. Now she loves her foster dad so much that
she likes to stand on top of her doghouse so that she can look in his office window so that she can watch him
work. She loves to cuddle with him and give him lots of kisses. She needs someone that will be patient with her
and give her time to build trust. She weighs 50 pounds, she's about 2 feet tall and gets along with other dogs.
She's been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, frontlined, fecal test done, and microchipped. If you can give this
special girl a home contact Terrell at 323-385-8993 or

SWEENEY |
SWEENEY
Hi, this is Sweeney. Sweeney is a 3 year old 50 pound male brindle Pit mix. I saw him and his buddy Red lying
on a grassy area by a busy street. They were very friendly when I approached them. Both of them came over for
some affection and then they kept on walking down a nearby alley. For a month I would see them along this same
busy street always together. Most of the time they would be lying next to each other. It was very heartbreaking
for me to pass them and not be able to help them. Finally I decided to take them because it was obvious Sweeney
needed medical help. Now Sweeney is completely healed, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, fecal test done,
frontlined, and microchipped. He is a mellow and affectionate guy and really loves being a couch potato and
would love to go on long walks but he wouldn’t enjoy jogging. He gets along with other dogs but not cats.

TANNER |
TANNER
Tanner is about 2 yrs old, and is a 20 lb. Chihuahua/beagle/Jack Russell mix. He is super-friendly with
everyone, and gets along with most dogs. He would love to have another dog to play with in his new home,
and/or some children (probably over 8 is best). Tanner is very smart, and knows most of his commands. He
is housetrained, currently using a doggie-door. Tanner has A LOT of energy, and MUST get regular exercise
and play! He has learned to walk on a treadmill, and would be a great running or skating partner! He is
very affectionate, and definitely a lap dog (although a little big for most laps!).
He was rescued from the shelter by a volunteer there who fell in love with him, but who can't keep him. He
is currently in a foster home, but needs a permanent home ASAP!
